Tasting Notes and Scores

88 LP

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Marjosse opens with tar, forest floor and tilled soil scents with a core of black plums and blackberries plus a waft of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, it has a lively backbone and pretty red fruit accents coming through on the finish.

75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec, harvested 6–21 October. Pierre Lurton’s home farm. A little duller than the Beaumont 2015 I have just been tasting. Thick and respectable but very much a country cousin of the left-bank wines. (JR)
