Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Marquis de Terme comes skipping out of the glass with bright, cheery notes of kirsch, black raspberries and blackcurrant pastilles, followed by hints of aniseed, damp soil and bouquet garni. The medium-bodied palate is delicately styled with just 13% declared alcohol and plenty of youthful, dried herbs accenting red and black fruits, supported by approachable, chewy tannins and bags of freshness, finishing with a lively lift. It's a great example of a fresher style for this vintage.

The deeply colored 2018 Château Marquis De Terme is another outstanding wine that shines for its elegance and complexity. Offering a medium-bodied, supple, lightly textured style as well as notes of cassis, spicy oak, and tobacco, it has ripe tannins, good balance, and a clean finish. Barrel sample. Darkest cherry colour with black core. Pure dark fruit, fine cassis aroma. Even a hint of citrus. Nicely juicy in the middle, the tannins smooth and chocolate-textured. Lovely fruit fills the core and the texture is rounded already. (JH)

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Deep ruby, with a juicy, floral nose of plum and cherry blossom. Medium weight on the palate with sappy tannins, the fruit is a little closed for now. It feels as though there are good bones for the medium term with the crunch of tannins and lingering subtle fruit on the finish. (TP)
