Tasting Notes and Scores

90-92 NM

The 2016 Monbrison is a Margaux that has performed splendidly this vintage, one that did not shine as benevolently as other appellations. It has a vigorous, delineated bouquet with blueberry, raspberry and crushed violets, the new oak neatly integrated. The palate is nicely structured and though there is a touch of hardness to the tannin on the entry, that will soften by the time of bottling. The acidity is well judged and there is good grip on the finish. Monbrison is often well-priced en primeur and as such, this comes recommended. - Wine Advocate #230, April 2017

Shows a hint of singed cedar, along with gently mulled black cherry and plum fruit. Light incense and black tea notes emerge on the supple finish. - James Molesworth (WineSpectator.com, April 2017)

The 2016 Monbrison is delicious. Aromatic, pliant and impeccably balanced, the wine is quite harmonious from the first taste. There is lovely depth and purity throughout. Sweet tobacco, herbs, mint and licorice add aromatic nuance to the racy red fruit. I imagine the 2016 will drink well with minimal cellaring. - vinous.com, April 2017

Dark purple. Ripe sweet black fruits. But then it falls away into something really rather insignificant. Lots of green notes. Drink 2023-2032. - jancisrobinson.com, April 2017
