Tasting Notes and Scores

94 WS

This really sneaks up on you, with laserlike focus to the blanched macadamia nut, honeysuckle, white peach and creamed yellow apple fruit flavors. Very sleek and restrained, with a long, stone-framed finish that's as pure as freshly fallen snow. JM

Wine Spectator

91-93 NM

Tasted at the chateau. Pure Sauvignon Blanc. Represents only 36% of the crop, quite a primal nose with pink grapefruit, lime leaf, a touch of nettle and Mirabelle. The palate is more refined than the previous couple of vintages with lanolin, honeysuckle, a touch of jasmine and pear skin. Very well defined towards the finish, very fine poise and length. Lovely and pert. Tasted March 2010.

Proprietor Paul Pontallier is pulling back considerably from the higher alcohol, fuller styles that he was producing as recently as 2007. I am not sure it is the best idea, but this is still a vivid, vibrant 100% Sauvignon, with loads of minerality and almost unbridled notes of grapefruit and white currants in a medium-bodied, crisp, somewhat tart style. Drink it over the next 20+ years.

(92-94 pts)
Because of both time and space constraints, I am not able to provide tasting notes for the 2009 dry white Bordeaux, but it is an extremely strong vintage. Most châteaux equaled the dazzling quality of the 2007 dry whites. That said, the 2009s tend to be less
classic than 2007, but more exotic, honeyed, and higher in alcohol, with compelling richness. The 2009s will probably have a shorter evolutionary curve, but these wines tend to last a long time, even in a vintage such as this. They are fascinating dry white wines.

[100% SB] Fine, fresh, cedary, ripe guava and gooseberry nose; beautifully balanced wine with a lovely length of ripe, juicy guava and gooseberry Sauvignon flavours; intense, vital, aromatically complex, and with great length. A more elegant, restrained balance than recently with under 14% rather than over 15% alcohol ! 2012-20+
