Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux has a crisp and well defined bouquet of black dusky fruit, sandalwood, bay leaf and a touch of warm gravel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and impressive structure. There is a linearity about this Pavillon Rouge, with a dash of white pepper towards the finish, as it clings to the mouth and says, I'm going to last longer than you think in bottle. This initially suggested a drinking window of around a decade, but now a decade on, it has other ideas. Tasted February 2017.

The richly fruity, delicious, already complex 2007 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux is best consumed over the next 7-8 years.

(58% cabernet sauvignon, 37% merlot and 5% petit verdot) Bright red-ruby. Very fresh aromas of cassis, raspberry, minerals, licorice and flowers. Supple and nicely fine-grained but a bit lean, with a faint herbal/peppery quality giving this moderately dense wine a dry edge. Finishes with a firm spicy quality and good length, but could use a bit more sweetness of fruit.

Red cherry going towards brick. Sultry sweet maturity on the nose. Not as generous on the palate and pretty developed but still giving pleasure with fine, grainy texture. (JH)
