Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2014 Petit-Figeac is wonderfully fleshy and supple. Minty, floral aromatics meld into a core of dark fruit in the 2014 Petit-Figeac. A very serious second wine the Petit-Figeac is super-expressive today, with a surprising level of depth and textural resonance. Sweet floral and spice notes reappear on the open, resonant finish. This is a gorgeous second wine with tons of near and medium-term appeal. If there is any critique to be made of the Petit-Figeac it is that it may be too serious of a second wine. The blend is 50% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc.

The 2014 Petit Figeac was showing quite deep in color. The nose was broody at first, opening with dark berry fruit interlaced with undergrowth and scents of stewed black tea. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannin. It is nicely balanced, but not a complex Deuxième Vin and it seems a little rustic compared to the Grand Vin that has more "sheen" compared to older vintages. I appreciate the salinity on the aftertaste, but the bottom line is this Petit Figeac will be best consumed over the next three or four years.
