The 2005 Château Poujeaux has quite a pronounced undergrowth element on the nose, with blackberry, cedar and wet tobacco scents developing in the glass. The palate is rounded on the entry, a voluminous Poujeaux with fine tannin, crisp acidity and a judicious touch of white pepper and tobacco towards the finish. Great length here - probably just entering its drinking plateau now.

This well-known estate is now owned by Clos Fourtet’s Philippe Cuvelier, but the estate was owned by Jean Theil when the 2005 was conceived. This 2005 reveals a beautiful black cherry and cassis-scented nose, with a touch of spring flowers, medium to full body, and supple tannin in a sexy, lush, heady style. A sleeper of the vintage, it is already approachable and satisfying, and can be drunk over the next 10-15 years.

Dark red; crisply ripe red fruit nose; medium fully, fresh and gently tannic, a delicious early maturity balance; plenty of appetizing sweet fruit, a subtle Médoc gravel aroma, a nice generosity of flavour, and excellent length. Delicious, a really lovely Cru Bourgeois for drinking now. Now – 2022+ Star value.

This deep ruby/purple-tinged sleeper of the vintage exhibits fresh, lively minerality intermixed with delicate background wood, sweet raspberry fruit, medium to full body, zesty acidity, and ripe tannin. Usually the top wine from Moulis, Poujeaux’s 2005 is again a fairly priced, impressive effort. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025.

Saturated medium ruby. Blackberry and bitter chocolate on the nose. Juicy, spicy and tight; still youthfully austere in the middle. Rather linear today, but nicely balanced and not hard. The dense black fruit and violet flavors saturate the palate on the persistent, juicy, firmly tannic finish.
