Tasting Notes and Scores

91-92 JS

This is very pretty for the vintage with berries, currants and hints of nutmeg. Medium to full body. Savory finish already. - jamessuckling.com, April 2018

James Suckling

89-91 NM

The 2017 Poujeaux has a generous, slightly smudged bouquet with cranberry, raspberry and cedar aromas, just a little greenness in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, dark berry fruit, black pepper and a little graphite. It just misses a sense of energy that I have found on the finest vintages of this Moulis, although there is a pleasant sappiness that develops. - vinous.com, May 2018

Neal Martin

87 LP

The 2017 Poujeaux is blended of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 13% Petit Verdot, aged for 16-18 months in French oak barrels (30% new). Medium to deep garnet-purple color, it has a pronounced nose of fresh blackcurrants, crushed black berries and kirsch with nuances of cedar chest, pencil lead and crushed rocks. Medium bodied, the palate has a good core of pure, expressive black fruits, framed by firm, rugged tannins and loads of freshness, finishing just a tad hard.

16 JH

62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot. Very upright in its Cabernet black fruit and strict tannins, so that the Petit Verdot perfume is rather overwhelmed but starts to emerge with aeration. Firm, dry tannins that need time to unfurl to reveal the fruit. (JH)

15.5 TP

Tasted blind. Deep ruby colour. Crushed red fruits on the nose – not the most defined but with a good intensity and hint of spice. The palate is compact and medium weight, slightly lean against very chalky tannins. A linear and fine fruit core lingers on the finish. (TP)
