Tasting Notes and Scores
Lots of white peach and sliced green apple with some grapefruit. Medium body. Tangy fruit and a fresh, creamy finish. Two-thirds sauvignon blanc and one-third sauvignon gris.

Strong reduction, clearing to show ripe, rich white peaches and pear, with sage and slate texture. Well structured, aged in large oak casks. Great stuff.

The 2021 Puygueraud Blanc contains more Sauvignon Gris this year because the Sauvignon Blanc was touched by frost. Cropped at 31hL/ha September 17–27, it has a well-defined nose of Granny Smith apples, gooseberry and nettle; an underlying petrichor note emerges with aeration. The palate is actually more complex than the nose suggests, delivering lime and Conference pear flavors and pleasant weight imparted by the Sauvignon Gris. There’s a touch of spice on the finish. Worth hunting down.

The 2021 Puygueraud Blanc shows just how compelling the vintage is for whites. Bright and yet also beautifully textured, the Blanc is gorgeous right out of the gate. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and a touch of reduction on the finish all grace the 2021. In this vintage, the Blanc has a bit more Sauvignon Gris done in barrel, which adds a touch of weight that works so well here. Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2022
