The 2014 Suduiraut is quite lucid and deep in color compared to its peer. The bouquet is well defined with copious wild honey, orange blossom, quince and almond aromas. The palate is well balanced with a viscous entry, well judged acidity, fresh and vibrant with a long, persistent, lightly spiced finish. Tawny gold at the 10 year point, beautifully concentrated butterscotch and silky lemon peel and citrus, powerfully poised and lifted, great quality. 50% new oak, 150g/l residual sugar.

Despite a challenging year, half of the crop was lost due to an invasion of Drosophila suzukii, the 2014 Suduiraut is showing very well today, evoking aromas of pineapple, baked white fruits, ripe orchard fruits, lemon and spices. Moderately weighted, layered and round, it’s perfectly balanced with an elegant, fresh mid-palate that is long and ethereal on the finish. This blend of 95% Sémillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc, matured for 18 months in 50% in new oak and 50% in one-year-old barrels, was picked in four tries between September 12 and October 30 with a tiny yield of seven hectoliters per hectare.

Very pale gold. Intense marzipan and ripe citrus and apricot. Viscous and rich but cool and fresh at the same time, with that lovely marzipan quality present but not obscuring the deliciously generous fruit. Long and so fresh even with all this richness. Barley sugar on the finish. (JH)
