Tasting Notes and Scores
Impressive depth of fruit and structure to this 2017 with currant, plum and light chocolate character, medium to full body and round, lightly chewy tannins. Flavorful and long. Dialed-in quality here.
James Suckling
Ancient and well-loved St Julien, owned by the long-established Bordelais Cordier family, which is experiencing a great revival under the consultancy of Stephane Derenoncourt. Quite dense, backwards nose, a little dark fruit and mineral to smell. Softness, finesse and elegance with a lovely purity of fruit and freshness. There is some good weight here, concentration and density of blackcurrant fruit, supported by soft, sweet edged tannins. A little dry and herby on the finish but will flesh out. - April 2018
Bordeaux Index
Solid, with currant and plum fruit at the core flanked by focused, chalky tannins. Savory and tobacco notes score the finish. A touch austere but shows impressive drive. - James Molesworth, winespectator.com, April 2018
Wine Spectator
The 2017 Talbot offers blackberry, bilberry, pencil shaving and gravelly scents on the nose. Nicely defined it misses a little intensity compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins. I admire the freshness of this Talbot, although the tarry finish just feels a little short and leaves you wanting for more. Hopefully it will put on more weight with bottle age. www.vinous.com

The 2017 Talbot is powerful and dense, but also a bit rough around the edges, with burly tannins that add to that impression. It will be interesting to see if the 2017 acquire more finesse during aging. Based on the wine's persistence, there is a reasonably good chance that will happen. Intense blue/black fruit, gravel, smoke and licorice add to the wine's dark personality. Tasted two times. - vinous.com, May 2018
Antonio Galloni
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Talbot is a little closed on the nose with subtle plums and blackberries notes plus hints of underbrush, black olives and wood smoke. Medium-bodied with a firm frame of chewy tannins, it has lovely freshness and a savory finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, erobertparker.com, April 2018
Wine Advocate
Deep crimson. Fragrant with both berry and leaf of cassis. Chalky texture but still fresh and just enough fruit to give a lively finish. Could do with a little more flesh in the middle but it is nicely scented. - Julia Harding, jancisrobinson.com, April 2018
