Tasting Notes and Scores
Partially destemmed and brought up in 20% new French oak, the 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a smoky, powerful bouquet of mulled black cherries, mulberries, candied violets, licorice, and forest floor. These carry to a full-bodied, concentrated, gorgeous wine with silky tannins, a layered, multi-dimensional texture, plenty of structure, and a great, great finish. This is seriously good juice that's going to benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and cruise for two decades.

The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is made with 30% whole bunch and 20% new oak. It has a perfumed bouquet with iris and incense aromas infusing the black cherry and cassis fruit, quite opulent and yet remaining nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fresh and quite citrus-like in style, although it relinquishes a little precision as it nears the finish.

Plum and blackberry fruit, spicy, earthy notes and flint – lots of depth. Nice intensity of blackberry on the palate, with quite fine structure that will need time. Long. (TJ)
