Tasting Notes and Scores

95 NM

The 2013 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is blossoming into a gorgeous wine. It has an attractive, pure and winsome bouquet with dark berry fruit, crushed stone and undergrowth aromas supremely well bound together by the oak. So precise and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, edgy and precise with just the right amount of salinity towards the finish. Très Grand Cru. This evinces the finesse that winemaker Charles Lachaux has brought to the domaine. Tasted at the annual Arnoux-Lachaux tasting at Corney & Barrow.

(60% vendange entier ; recently completed its malo): Bright, dark red. Expressive, distinctly red aromas of redcurrant, iron, minerals and vanillin oak, complicated by smoky underbrush. Smooth and sweet in the mouth, even creamy, with the deep red fruit flavors suggesting a leisurely ripening process. Substantial ripe tannins arrive late and coat the sides of the tongue. (This was totally different in style from the estate's austere, blacker Clos Vougeot, which was juicy and penetrating but hugely tannic and impossible to assess in November owing to a high level of SO2.)

Giving very little away on the nose apart from a hint of oak sweetness. Firm, dry, paper-fine texture, and with the suggestion of real elegance to come. Extremely subtle, harmonious and long. (JH)

Plump, plummy, very good depth and balance on the nose. The oak is just about in check, though there’s quite a whack of tannin at the end. (AH)
