(60% vendange entier; 50% new oak; from 70-year-old vines planted in lighter, limestone-rich soil): Deep, bright ruby-red. Dark, reticent aromas of black raspberry, licorice and stone. Dense and sappy on the palate, communicating enticing sweetness to the mineral-tinged dark fruit flavors. Excellent inner-mouth tension here gives the wine a juicy character and carries the firmly tannic finish. At 13. 5% alcohol following chaptalization, this is among the highest-octane 2014s at this address.
