Tasting Notes and Scores

91.5 ST

(racked and sulfited): Good bright, dark red. Raspberry, spices, flowers and licorice on the scented nose. Dense, sweet and creamy, with a dominant flavor of sappy maraschino cherry. Finishes impressively long and palate-saturating, with ripe tannins and good medicinal reserve. Lachaux noted that this cuvee used to be harder, but is very supple in both 2011 and 2010. Excellent potential.

A highly spiced nose of both red and black pinot fruit is trimmed in hints of earth and sandalwood. The very generous and impressively rich medium weight flavors are blessed with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a beguilingly seductive texture to the lush, balanced and persistent finish. This is first rate as Chaumes rarely possesses this level of potential quality. Drink: 2018+.
