Tasting Notes and Scores
Aromas of Griotte cherries, wild berries, peonies and orange rind mingle with hints of grilled squab, introducing Barthod's 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Gruenchers, a medium to full-bodied, precise wine that's layered and youthfully introverted, with an ample chassis of rich, powdery tannin and a lively spine of acidity. Barthod produced three barrels this year.

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers 1er Cru is limited to three barrels this year. It has a sense of completeness on the beautifully defined nose, which features pure dark cherry, wild strawberry and crushed stone aromas, all very perfumed and sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins and a little spicier than the other cuvées, although I find that this drops away too swiftly on the finish by comparison. Hopefully it will develop more persistence in bottle.
