The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has another compelling bouquet of intense red berry fruit laced with sous-bois , crushed rock and pressed rose petal aromas. The medium-bodied palate displays grainy tannins. One of the most structured Chambolles from the domaine and perhaps the most saline on the finish, it gets the saliva flowing and also conveys wonderful freshness. This has real gravitas.

Cask sample. A little darker than the Chatelots. Vibrant crimson. More savoury and spiced on the nose but still with gorgeous Chambolle scent. And that dark floral aspect which is peony and not rose. Even a light touch of violets. Chewy but rounded, more obviously oaky but made sweet on the palate by the lovely fruit. Intense and long, with a long way to go and yet more approachable in this vintage than is typical for her wines. Finely dry finish. (JH)
