The 2014 Blagny 1er Cru La Piece Sous Bois comes from a less recognised part of the Côte de Beaune, in the upper reaches of the slope towards the wood. Benjamin remarked that with global warming, perhaps one day in the future it will become the most desirable enclave of Burgundy. It has a crisp, blackberry and raspberry-scented bouquet with a faint, cool seaweed tang in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, sappy red berry fruit with good acidity, just a dash of black pepper towards the finish. Enjoy this over 5-6 years.

(Leroux owns these vines): Good full red. Musky aromas of plum, raspberry and chocolate. Broader and more mineral than the Savigny-lès-Beaune wines but less sweet and forthcoming in the early going. Finishes with a firm underpinning of tannins and minerality.
