Blessed with a great work ethic, humble charm, and no little talent, the Bachelet-Monnot brothers have some famous name vineyards under their control - including Batard-Montrachet and several top Premier Cru Puligny-Montrachets. However, in the words of Neal Martin, what I love is how they elevate Maranges into something that exceeds all expectations. See for yourself what this humble appellation can deliver. Founded in 2005 by two brothers, Marc and Alexandre, Domaine Bachelet-Monnot has rapidly become one of the most exciting wine producers in Burgundy. The property created from their father’s and uncle’s land, makes it a truly family affair. This is one to try now from the rising stars of Burgundy. Ever since our first visit to their estate in Spring 2012, we have been obsessive followers of the wines of Bachelet-Monnot. The two young brothers who run the estate are amongst the most gifted winemakers of their generation, creating wines of absolute purity and with that magnificent sense of energy and tension which typifies the best of the region. This is one of the best value red wines you can find in Côte d’Or from a winery that is at the very top of the Burgundy hierarchy. Thanks to the vineyard's soils being rich in clay, this wine has a delightfully pure and long finish.
