Tasting Notes and Scores
Medium red-ruby. High-pitched aromas of blackberry, licorice and crushed rock. Compellingly sweet and fine-grained but with penetrating rocky minerality to its crunchy dark berry flavors. Reminded me of biting into a blueberry tart! The smooth but firm, slowly building finish displays outstanding purity and juiciness. This beauty has the sheer density of material to make its tannins virtually disappear. But I would still want to cellar this premier cru for at least a five or six years.

The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru has an attractive, open-knit, almost warm bouquet of lovely raspberry and crushed strawberry scents and hints of marmalade and fig. The palate is very well balanced, with firm, saturated tannins that lend both fatness and velvety texture. Fortunately, the acidity is such that it retains admirable balance and there is enormous depth toward the finish. Great potential. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Plenty of floral fragrance on the palate, and a chewy, tight structure. Not hugely interesting – their Vosne Suchots is a better bet. (RH)
