The 2012 Nuits St. Georges Aux Thorey is wonderfully vivid and alive. Rose petals and smoke are followed by a hint of new leather and dark red fruit. The 2012 is marked by its intense, pulsating fruit, crystalline minerality and super-expressive aromatics. Vosne aromatic meets Nuits structure in a striking, drop-dead gorgeous Burgundy that delivers the goods, and then some.

Tasted blind at Flint Wines’ 2007/2012 Nuits Saint-Georges tasting in London. The 2012 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey from Sylvain Cathiard showed better in bottle than in barrel. It has an appealing bouquet with bold ripe raspberry and strawberry aromas, fine mineralité here with focus and harmony. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, crisp acidity, fleshy with impressive depth and a Vosne-like texture towards the cassis-tinged finish. This is a classy number from Sebastien Cathiard, one that has great potential. Tasted November 2016.

Good bright, full red. Slightly reduced aroma of red fruits. Concentrated and creamy in the mouth, with excellent texture and depth to the flavors of musky raspberry, dark cherry and sexy soil tones. In a nicely cool style thanks to fresh acidity. Finishes minerally and long.

Tasted blind. Light ruby. Mid crimson. Rather obvious sweet oak on the nose. Simple fruit and some underripe fruit character. Not a favourite! (JR)
