Tasting Notes and Scores
Sourced from three parcels, this exhibits a very pure, slightly muted nose at present. Wild strawberry, cherry and a touch of forest floor (moss.) Very elegant and harmonious on the palate with good weight and supreme focus. Judicious use of new oak (50%) that is totally entwined within the fabric of the wine. It is just the texture that is so bewitching. As good, if not better than many Premier Crus in this auspicious vintage. Drinking 2009-2015. Tasted January 2007.

Good deep red. Aromas of dark raspberry, blood orange and spicy oak. Dense, supple and sappy, with terrific stuffing and structure for a village wine. Finishes impressively long and sweet, with dusty, ripe tannins. An uncommonly good village wine.

From La Colombiere, just east of the village, the Cathiard 2005 Vosne-Romanee displays bright cherry and cranberry on the nose, an alternation of brisk freshness with hints of caramel and a subtle floral note on a creamy, texturally refined palate, and a lovely finish in which the fruits and flowers are joined by white pepper and cardamom. Also recommended: 2005 Bourgogne ($39.00;85). A Becky Wassserman Selection (various importers), Le Serbet, Beaune; fax 011-33-3-80-24-29-70

Deeply pitched aromas of black fruit, plum and Asian spice with full, rich, sweet and mouth coating flavors that are generous and refined though the essential character here is quite serious and culminates in a beautifully long finish that is dense, concentrated and powerful. An impressive villages.

Bright crimson. Very polished, chestnut nose. Subtle. Complete and pretty dry on the finish. Very rich, liqueur sort of nose. But still a bit dry on the palate. Needs time. A bit dry on the finish. (JR)
