Bright medium red. Aromatic, almost candied scents of black cherry, raspberry, spices and flowers. Juicy, savory and dry, showing excellent energy to its black raspberry fruit. Not a sweet or thick style but firm and precise. If this excellent village wine closes up like Cathiard's 2012s have, it will require more patience than my projected drinking window suggests.

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée Villages was sampled from a new and one-year old barrel. The nose is very pure and seductive with small dark cherries and blueberry, just a hint of violet in the background. The palate is well balanced with plenty of energy in the wine. The tannins seem quite fine and there is a hint of blood orange towards the effervescent finish. Give it a couple of years in bottle.

50% new oak. Four parcels in two lieux-dits, not the best placed. Chanondins, Champs Goudins, just below La Colombière by Anne Gros’ cuverie. Pungently aromatic. Although this is a mix of old and new barrels, I’m tasting a bit of new oak. Fresh delicate fruit. Racy stuff. Very pretty. Dry finish. (JR)
