Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2013 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru has a typically powerful bouquet with macerated small dark cherries, a hint of dark chocolate and loamy aromas that envelop the senses, developing more floral top notes with aeration. The palate is supple and silky smooth, very sensual with black cherries, boysenberry and spice with just a slight bitterness on the persistent finish. It is probably a decade too young to drink this, so keep any bottles in the cellar for several years. Tasted at 21 Boulevard restaurant in Beaune.

Bright, saturated medium red. Captivating nose combines deep smoky minerality and sexy soil tones. Round on entry, then quite backward in the middle and much less showy than the Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Murgers. Today the wine's strong saline, smoky minerality is keeping the fruit in the background. Most impressive on the ripely tannic, very long finish. This will need considerable cellaring.

80% new oak. He is lucky enough to have 0.75 ha. Very heady and rich. Fizzy and lively. Great pace and interest on the nose with sufficient fruit to distract from any sudden finish. Lots of juice. Almost salty finish. Just dries out a bit on the end. (JR)
