Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2014 Vosne Romanée 1Er Cru les Malconsorts has a very cerebral bouquet, beautifully defined and the fruit here is very enmeshed with the oak. There is something more tertiary -- wild woodland, wild mushroom even tincturing the red and black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, not as powerful as Cathiard's other 2014 Premier Crus, but with the finest precision on the finish. Its persistence is awe-inspiring.

(this only finished its secondary fermentation in late October): Bright red-ruby. Aromas of black raspberry and crushed stone complicated by a whiff of smoked meat. A bit less harmonious right now than the Suchots but shows outstanding éclat to the savory flavors of dark berries, minerals and fresh blood. Superb acidity and a high level of CO2 contribute to the impression of energy and lift. Finishes with palate-saturating fruit, complex soil salinity, and a serious spine of tannins that avoid dryness. Outstanding potential.

67% new oak. They are lucky enough to have 0.75 ha. Just finished the malo. Very dark crimson. Extra breadth and meat and two veg on the nose. Real tension as well as weight. Big palate impact on entry and then almost low acid, it’s so rich and ripe, though there is no obvious sweetness. Still tight but with lots of potential. Very very youthful. (JR)
