The 2009 Chambertin is utterly impeccable from start to finish. Layers of fruit fill out the wine's broad-shouldered frame, leading to a voluptuous, seamless crescendo of aromas and flavors. The 2009 possesses tons of intensity and fabulous overall balance. What a great showing.

(purchased wine and fruit; 50% new oak) Good deep red. Small wild red berries and nutty oak on the nose. Cherry and a saline quality on the palate, with considerable oak showing today. Ripe but a bit high-toned: I want more energy and treble notes in a Chambertin. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins.

This has a sweet fleshy bouquet with raspberry coulis and tart red cherries that lacks a little delineation. The palate is very smooth on the entry, good extraction here, very harmonious but perhaps a little linear towards the finish. Fine. Tasted January 2011.
