Tasting Notes and Scores
(100% destemmed): Good bright, deep red. Deep, soil-driven aromas of dark raspberry, smoked meat, menthol and minerals complicated by subtle nuances of licorice and flowers. Juicy and intense but quite tight in the early going, offering lovely incipient perfume but also a medicinal reserve to the redcurrant, red cherry and mineral flavors. Boasts terrific depth of fruit but this will also need considerable patience. The wine's firm tannic spine is nicely buffered by its penetrating sweet fruit. I would not be surprised if this wine merited a rating at the top end of my projected range.

The 2014 Chambertin Grand Cru, matured in about 30% new oak, has a well defined bouquet, timid at first but it only takes a few swirls of the glass to unleash those seductive rose petal-infused red fruit that gains intensity over three to four minutes. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly chewy entry. The acidity is well judged, quite grippy in the mouth with a dense finish that will hopefully muster a touch more finesse towards the finish. There is potentially a very fine Chambertin here, but it is very closed at the moment and will need 3-4 years in bottle at least.
