Tasting Notes and Scores
Bright red. Enticing floral lift to the aromas of raspberry, cherry, blood orange and earth. Sappy, spherical and sweet, showing superb mineral tension to the flavors of red cherry, red berries, fig and earth. Wonderfully balanced for Rognet, which can be high in alcohol. Finishes bright, stony and very long, with a suggestion of oyster shell. Should evolve very slowly.

The 2013 Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru has a very focused and delineated bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and mineral scents–a touch of the old sea cave here. The palate is more red fruit than black–underpinned by fine tannin, hints of brown spice and cloves emerging toward the finish that fans out with some panache. This is well worth seeking out–a succinctly crafted Corton Rognet that should give a couple of decades worth of pleasure.

Savoury dark fruit combined with oaked sweetness. Seems to be a bit smokily reductive too. More reductive on the palate but the freshness and fruit purity is still evident underneath but I fear the oak is a little dominant and may stay that way. (JH)
