Tasting Notes and Scores
(a 50/50 blend of 70- and 45-year-old vines; vinified with about one-third whole clusters): Bright medium red. Delicate aromas of red raspberry, violet and licorice. Dense and sappy if youthfully clenched, offering terrific sugar/acid piquancy to the taut flavors of red raspberry, red cherry and pepper. Boasts superb energy on the long, rising, firmly tannic finish. Distinctly a cool, combe -influenced wine--less solid and dense than your typical Gevrey. This had only recently finished its malolactic fermentation.

The 2013 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux, which lies adjacent to Mazis-Chambertin and is cooled by the breeze funnelling down the Combe de Lavaut, has a strict, tightly wound, slightly earthy/bay leaf bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet black fruit, gentle grip, with some new oak to be subsumed on the finish. It displays good weight, but I would like to see it develop a little more precision.

Mid ruby. Full and rich and full blooded. Not sophisticated or subtle but it does deliver density and interest. (JR)
