Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru leaps from the glass with a mélange of red and blueberry fruit, wilted iris petals and a touch of inkwell. I admire the delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, juicy red berry fruit laced with marmalade and blood orange. Perhaps the palate does not quite deliver the sophistication of the nose, though it feels long and quite corpulent on the finish. Enjoy over the next 12-15 years.

Cask sample. Remarkably dark in colour. Very ripe aroma of damsons and a little bit raisiny. I fear this may not be a good sample, possibly a little oxidised. Lots of ripe fruit on the palate but fresh too even though the sample does seem a bit below par. I am not sure I can score this on the basis of this sample. (JH)
