Tasting Notes and Scores

95.5 ST

Bright, dark red. Black cherry, licorice and minerals on the nose, complemented by a treble note of orange peel. Sappy, saline and backward but the wine's tactile, extract-rich quality and strong acidity already set the salivary glands aquiver. The chewy, slowly mounting finish shows outstanding energy and a light touch. This should perform brilliantly at the dinner table--about 15 years from tonight. This special cuveé is a selection made from the lowest bunches on the oldest vines, which Labet says gives the best balance. The technical numbers here are amazing: 13.5% natural alcohol, 4.95 acidity and 3.6 pH.
