Tasting Notes and Scores

94+ WK

The 2015 Corton Grand Cru is developing brilliantly, showing even more depth and dimension than it did a few years ago. It unwinds in the glass with notes of wild berries and plums mingled with licorice, subtle spices and petals. Full-bodied, rich and layered, with lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, it's muscular and concentrated, with a seamless, enveloping profile and a long, expansive finish. This is still some years from maturity, and it is built to be very long lived.

The 2015 Corton Grand Cru was cropped at 22.30hl/ha on 5 September. I feel that the more that Aubert and his team have worked this parcel, the more it becomes an integral part of the “family”. It has such a pretty, vivacious bouquet with vivid red cherries, bergamot and crushed strawberry. It is extremely very well defined and with a subtle tincture of orange blossom and rose petals. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry with just a light tang of spice. This Corton already feels very cohesive and unerringly approachable thanks to the lightness of touch towards the tertiary finish. Delightful is the word that immediately springs to mind. Tasted at Corney & Barrow’s annual in bottle tasting in London.

Good medium red. Captivating soil-driven scents of raspberry, flowers and smoky minerality. Not a particularly sweet or thick wine in the context of the vintage but juicy, precise and energetic, with its musky red fruit and earth flavors lifted by spices. Finishes savory and long, with a firm tannic spine. Already conveying strong personality.

There is a strange divinity to the aromas of DRC wines, and this has it in spades: the red fruit is poised and understated, interwoven with stemmy character that has a dewdrop sort of freshness to it, somehow. Tremendous clarity on the palate, light tannic chew and tremendous cranberry fruit plus an iron-rich earthiness on the finish. Goes way beyond the limits of most Corton. (RH)

Gloriously heady nose and beautiful richness, firm tannins with a hint of brûlée and wonderful breadth. Good idea to taste the 2014s first! Great balance with masses of both fruit and tannins. Should last really well: very long and rich. Aubert thinks this is the best Corton they have made. (JR)
