Tasting Notes and Scores

92-94 NM

Lucid pink/cherry colour with wide pink rim. A highly perfumed nose which reminded me of Romanee-Saint-Vivant: violets and roses. Very fine definition and very fragrant. The palate has racy acidity, vibrant ripe red fruits (redcurrants and cherry) with a very strong, slightly alcoholic finish. What I call an "irresistible" wine that will be delicious in 3-4 years much like the 1997 was. (1,380 cases produced) Tasted February 2003.

An expressive nose offers up notes of ripe crushed black fruits and sexy| perfumed aromas of fresh flowers| Asian spices and earth. There is good focus to the rich| solidly well-concentrated and relatively powerful flavors that are balanced and harmonious while terminating in a firm and impressively lingering finish. While certainly enjoyable now this is developing more slowly than I originally foresaw and thus I would be inclined to give this delicious effort another 3 to 5 years of cellar time before drinking up in earnest. Medium red. Flamboyant, perfumed aromas of raspberry, redcurrant and spices, with sweet oak scents. Fat, sweet and thoroughly ripe, with nice definition and sappiness. A distinctly fleshy, tender style, and distinctly oakier than the '99. Finishes with a chocolatey flavor.

Very pretty deep ruby with a slightly rustic nose at this stage. True and juicy on the nose. Scented, delicate, round and supple. Good acidity. Nice balance with tannins not being particularly obvious at this stage. Instead, open and charming on this particular day (Aubert seemed slightly surprised but did say that Echezeaux was particularly successful in 2000) with a note of griotte cherries. Not enormous in scale but already quite long. (JR)
