Tasting Notes and Scores
Pale+ ruby colour with a brick rim. Earthy, savoury, meaty nose with notes of ceps, smoky bacon, kirsch and spiced blackberries at the core. The palate is firmly structured, masculine, with a high level of grainy tannins and medium to high acidity complimenting the savoury fruit. Very long, earthy finish. Needs a few more years to soften and open out some of those more delicate, latent flavours but promises to be an amazing wine.

This wine is spectacular. Powerful, dense, meaty, and thick, it is exceedingly long and possesses a firm tannic backbone that requires cellaring. Projected maturity: 2005-2018.
Tasting note: This too is reserved and restrained with an almost completely closed nose that reveals only glimpses of fresh black fruit even after extended aeration. The flavors however are rich and offer excellent detail and are underpinned by dense yet ripe tannins and good extract. I very much like the style of this though it is clearly for the patient and I suspect this will always have a rather strict personality. This has put on a bit of weight and a bit of richness since the big Richebourg tasting in '01 and appears to be better balanced than the prior bottle but otherwise, it is quite similar.

Perfumed but shy nose hints at smoke and truffle. Then shockingly expressive in the mouth, with intensely spicy, musky raspberry and wild strawberry flavors. Really fills the mouth. Has more than enough fruit to support its powerful underlying structure. The longest of these '95s by far to this point; tannins are substantial but supple. A beautifully balanced wine that currently rather open-armed, in the words of de Villaine, but I expect it to go into a shell soon that may last several years.

Medium-to-dark ruby-colored and possessing aromas of jammy red and black fruits, mocha and sweet oak, the Richebourg explodes with a full-bodied, thick-textured mouthful of fabulously ripe dark berries, wild cherries, blueberries, round tannins and persistent length. Projected maturity: 2003-2014. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided. Drc wines are not subjected to any filtration or fining and undergo only one racking. The 1995 Richebourg Grand Cru is mature in colour with visible bricking on the rim. Likewise, the nose is fully mature with light red fruit and wild mint, a little "sweet 'n sour." Decent delineation. The palate is quite tart on the entry with moderate depth, a tad rustic compared to recent vintages, yet it becomes smoother and coheres towards the finish. This doesn't exactly reek of Richebourg, hence my modest score. Tasted at the Richebourg vertical dinner in Taipei.
