Tasting Notes and Scores
This has nothing restrained or closed about it, yet there is a lot of substance in reserve. There is lush, lovely plum and mulberry fruit with hints of violets, liquorice and spice. There is more freshness on the palate than one might expect from 2015, and a very silky texture. The wine is still very youthful and primary; it seems hardly to have evolved at all, yet it is starting to show more of its ultimate potential and has perhaps reached the first plateau of a long life. 16,644 bottles were produced in 2015.

The 2015 Romanée-Conti Grand Cru was picked on 10 September at 22 hectoliters per hectare, the lowest yield alongside the 2015 Corton. It offers ethereal scents of pure red berry fruit, wet limestone, truffle and a touch of undergrowth all with crystalline delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a beautiful line of acidity, tightly wound and very focused with not a single hair out of place. You could argue that it does not fan out in the same fashion, with similar intent as the La Tâche, preferring to remain comparatively linear and correct. Rather, this Romanée-Conti is a masterclass of precision and persistence, the shimmering red fruit lingering in the mouth for a ridiculous amount of time, not that you complain. It is a brilliant Pinot Noir.

(not racked): Bright, deep red. Aromas of black raspberry, coffee and licorice show a distinct torrefaction quality as well as piquant suggestions of pepper, flowers and wild herbs. Wonderfully dense and refined, combining the power of the Romanée-Saint-Vivant and the spherical texture and smoky, peppery, veggie complexity that's typical of Romanée-Conti in its early years. This remarkably velvety wine fills every nook and cranny in the mouth without leaving any impression of weightiness. The explosive finish features utterly noble tannins and great palate-staining length. This potentially monumental wine shows more sweetness today than La Tâche and is surprisingly easy to taste. But it's hard to believe that it won't evolve positively in bottle for three or four decades.

Floral aromas as well as irresistible red bramble fruit and a touch of leafy stem aroma too. Persistent and balanced in a way that is quite remarkable, keeping the tannin and acid interlinked right through to the very last echo of flavour. Incredible persistence that keeps delivering flavour. A triumph, combining the excellence of producer, vintage and site in a way that truly deserves the legendary label. (RH)

Amazingly complex nose in which every DRC ingredient seems to mingle. Real savour and beautiful balance. Essence de RC! Already manages both majesty and grace. Lift and freshness. Tingle and great length. Difficult to find any fault! Grows on the end. In hot years it never suffers water stress. (I’m sure many bottles will be drunk long before 2035…) (JR)

The 2015 Romanée-Conti Grand Cru is one of the pinnacles of this great red Burgundy vintage, opening in the glass to reveal a bouquet of kaleidoscopic complexity, notes of raspberry and red plum mingling with rose petal, peony, blood orange and spice. On the palate, the wine is silky, medium to full-bodied and stunningly complete, its supremely elegant tannins entirely cloaked in pristinely delicate red fruit. Despite its incredible concentration and persistence, this Romanée-Conti is utterly weightless, and its effortless harmony and unremitting finish preclude any argument about its benchmark quality. Cropped at 22 hectoliters per hectare and harvested September 10.
