Tasting Notes and Scores
(just a bit of frost here; made with 25% whole clusters): Bright red. Lovely lift to the aromas of black cherry, licorice and violet. Nicely juicy, spicy wine with a captivating fine-grained texture; slightly medicinal in a positive cool way. I find this more saline and delineated than most of the foregoing 2016s, and its rising finish perfumes the mouth. A rather classically styled wine with a pH of 3.48.

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur has a very pretty and pure bouquet with red cherries and strawberry preserve aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite refined and nicely structured. It is not a complex or nuanced Gevrey-Chambertin, but I appreciate the insistent grip on the finish and also its sappiness. This is worth investigating and attests to one of the more underrated premier crus within the appellation.
