Tasting Notes and Scores
(Drouhin works with a parcel near the little tower in front of the chateau and another in the southeast section of the cru but in 2014 only kept the tower portion and sold off the rest): Medium bright red. Complex nose melds plum, red cherry, licorice, pepper and herbs. Juicy and firm-edged; more minerally, tight and backward than the preceding 2014s. Shows a slight medicinal reserve and finishes with dustier tannins than the Clos de Bèze but also good length. This precise, energetic wine will need time in bottle to blossom and gain in complexity.

The 2014 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was picked on September 18 and contains 20% whole cluster fruit. Deep in color, it has a voluminous blackberry and raspberry coulis-scented nose that does not quite deliver the panache of the Petits-Monts for example. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly "furry" tannin, clean and pure black cherry and raspberry fruit laced with white pepper and a touch of sage on the mild-mannered finish. A little austere perhaps, but it finishes with some style.

80% domaine fruit. 20% whole cluster. 17 months in oak. Greyish crimson. Not very aromatic now. Just a hint of stemmy red cherry. Lively and red-fruited on the palate, really rather gentle, especially after the grands crus above. Dry, lacking fruit depth, especially in the middle. (JH)
