Tasting Notes and Scores

90.5 NM

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Village shows commendable freshness on a nose that reveals hints of gunflint and wet limestone. The palate is well balanced with quite a pithy opening. Good depth here, and a slightly waxy texture, plus a dab of lemongrass toward the finish. This is very promising and punches above its weight.

Bursting with notes of pear, orange oil, white flowers and toast, the 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Village is medium to full-bodied, charming and enveloping, with succulent acids and a textural, giving profile. It will drink well young.

This blend apparently contains quite a lot of bought-in fruit. They used 20% new oak and the proportion is declining. Light, long toast is what they choose from their coopers. Bottled. Fairly light nose. Véronique Drouhin says they aim for elegance in their Pulignys, although I would say that seems to be the aim with most of their wines. Sweetness on the beginning and then one is quite aware of the alcohol on the end. (JR)
