Tasting Notes and Scores
(a 50/50 blend of Charmes and Mazoyères): Bright, full red. Alluring scents of black raspberry, red cherry and rose petal; lovely classic Charmes but a bit redder than usual for this cuvée at this address. Sappy and energetic in the mouth, combining compelling sweetness of fruit with good grip. The very long, rising finish features a firm tannic structure. This grand cru will be sexy early on and should age well.

The 2016 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has a detailed, stony, quite Mazoyères-like bouquet in terms of structure, adorned with a subtle marine influence coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with vibrant red berry fruit, raspberry and crushed strawberry, quite linear with veins of orange sorbet that enlivens and lends a measured exotic twist to the finish. Very fine, and I suspect it will age with style.

Barrel sample. Bright dark crimson. Light, slightly vegy nose. Quite lean and fresh. Much less sweet and rich than most Dujac 2016s. Slightly austere on the end, though this may keep it appetising… (JR)
