Tasting Notes and Scores

91 NM

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers 1er Cru has quite a savory bouquet, touches of dried blood infusing the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin. This is nicely balanced, though quite sturdy at the moment, with a backward, surly finish. Give it two or three years in bottle.

Racked to tank mid November and will be bottled before Christmas. Not made last year because of the frost. Gorgeous intensity of raspberry-fruit sweetness and delicate floral character. Just a slight smoky note. Gently chewy on the palate, scented too and that scent goes on for ever. Tight on the finish but with a juicy core. I’d drink this on the fruit rather than ageing it too long – for the sheer Chambolle beauty. (JH)
