The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, black olive and oyster shells, all very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with blackberry and cranberry fruit, tangible mineralité, a crunchy texture and fine backbone on the finish. This has the same symmetry and precision as the Beaux Monts but a little more persistence on the aftertaste.

The fireworks begin in earnest with the 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts, a brilliant young wine that bursts from the glass with aromas of cherries, red berries and exotic spices, complemented by delicate top notes of blood orange and peonies and framed by a deft touch of creamy new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a deep and multidimensional core, lively acids and a long, resonant finish.

Southern end of Vosne with more power. A parcel they took on in 2005. Barrel sample. More floral than the Échezeaux just tasted. Gorgeous scent on the palate, red fruit, ripe, concentrated and so lively and fresh. Smooth if firm texture. Beautifully lifted as well as generous in the vintage. (JH)
