Tasting Notes and Scores
I have always had a weakness for Engel's immensely appealing 2002 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées, a charming and expressive wine that bursts with aromas of peony, rose petal, sweet berry fruit and cinnamon. Medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety, it's elegantly enveloping, with lively acids, melting tannins and a long, perfumed finish.

Medium ruby-colored, the 2002 Vosne-Romanee Les Brulees has a floral (mostly violets), pretty nose that reveals touches of white pepper. Medium-bodied, fresh, and deep, it is packed with red fruits, touches of oak, as well as hints of cola. Drink this elegant, flavorful effort over the next 8-9 years. The nose is sweet and more dense than the Village Cru. Fine definition, slightly jammy red fruits. Palate is well-balanced with moderate acidity. Backward but seems to fade on the finish. Good but not great. Tasted January 2004.
