The 2012 Corton Grand Cru Clos des Cortons Faiveley is deep and tightly coiled, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis, dark chocolate, grilled squab and coniferous forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, vibrant and concentrated, it's layered and incisive, with refined tannins, tangy acids and a long, mineral finish. This is one of the finest vintages of the decade for this bottling, and it is still a good handful of years away from maturity.

I loved the 2012 Corton Clos des Corton, and this elegant, seamless beauty was brought up in 50% new barrels (but you’d certainly not know that from tasting it). Sweet red (and some black) fruits, forest floor, ample spice, and dried flower notes all flow to a medium-bodied, balanced, layered wine that shines for its balance and length.

Bright, deep red. Deep aromas of black cherry, crushed rock and graphite. Dense, sappy and energetic, offering outstanding depth to its soil-driven black cherry and saline flavors. Delivers an uncanny combination of chewy texture and verve. Finishes with palate-staining length and lift, as tactile as a solid. A great vin de terroir for the cellar.

Velvety, supple tannins with a richness and density of flavours that is unusual for this.

Mid cherry red. Cedary red fruit. Remarkably soft and forthcoming on the front of the palate though the tannins are dry and quite present at the back. On the austere side but long and in balance. (JH)
