Tasting Notes and Scores
Derived from lieu-dit Charlemagne, the 2019 Corton Grand Cru reveals aromas of sweet red berries, woodsmoke, raw cocoa and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and fine-boned, it's pure and precise, with a more ethereal profile than the richer, more soil-driven Aloxe-Corton premiers crus that preceded it.

The 2019 Corton Grand Cru has just a touch of reduction, but there's attractive dark berry fruit behind it. The palate is medium-bodied, sappy and finely balanced, with lovely mineralité surfacing toward the finish. There is an elegance to this Corton that I really appreciate, although it does dry a bit in the glass, prompting me to dock a point. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Mid crimson. More savoury than the Pernand Les Fichots, perhaps a touch of smoky reduction, or is it a bit of barrel toast? Firm but remarkably silky at the same time. Real beauty in youth. Dark-red fruit has depth but not sweetness. Elegant already. Long, mouth-watering finish. Just lovely even now. (JH)
