The 2017 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is clean and precise on the nose, one of the most crystalline that I encountered during the blind tasting, offering seamlessly integrated oak, brilliant delineation and shimmering red fruit laced with orange sorbet. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, gentle grip, fine delineation and beguiling symmetry. This perhaps conveys more energy on the finish compared to other Grand Crus, though there is a lot of new oak to be subsumed with time. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Barrel sample. Rich, ripe cherry fruit on the nose. Firm and dry on the palate but smooth and rounded on the finish. All in embryo. (JH)
