The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux is marvelously complex and complete. Everything is in the right place, from the expressive bouquet to the sweet, delineated fruit. Crushed rocks and sweet spices add further nuance before the wine starts closing in on itself. This is a muscular, intense Burgundy that needs time in the bottle to soften.

Bright medium red. Highly nuanced nose combines crushed stone, dried rose, wild mint and minerals. Dense, sappy, savory and dry, with solid minerality contributing to the impression of energy and inner-mouth perfume. Supple and fine-grained wine, finishing with very good length and a fine dusting of tannins. Like the Goulots, this has not yet been tightened by a sulfur addition.
