Tasting Notes and Scores
Aux Echézeaux is a very well-sited 0.47ha village parcel just to the south of the Mazoyères grand cru on the border with Morey-St-Denis. Planted in the 1930s, this old vine cuvée is aromatic, refined and detailed, with chalky acidity adding extra bite to the summer berry flavours.

From the southern side of Gevrey-Chambertin, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux reveals aromas of cassis, wild plums, dark chocolate, loamy soils and warm spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and nicely balanced, with fine, powdery structuring tannins and juicy acids.

South of the village, planted in 1928 just below Mazoyères towards Morey, and a vineyard from his mother. Between Charmes-Chambertin and Aux Cheseaux premier cru (in Morey). Planted at 12,000 vines/ha. Seems more Chambolle in the way it is scented with red fruit. Very floral – roses not violets – and charming, tea leaves. Roses all the way. Succulent and gorgeous. Finest of tannins and great freshness. Was once premier cru but later declassified. (JH)
