Tasting Notes and Scores
Bright red. Aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, red licorice, smoke and flowers. Suave and fine-grained; comes across as suppler than the 2014. Delivers lovely fruit sweetness but also serious medicinal reserve; will this shut down in bottle? Turned more tannic with air and showed its firm spine. This very fresh Clos Vougeot will need at least a few years in the bottle.

Tasted blind at Fine & Rare Wines' Clos Vougeot tasting, the 2013 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Jean Grivot has a slight metallic element on the nose that implies just a little reduction, although it seems to blow off with time and there are some decent cranberry and wild strawberry notes underneath. The palate is smooth on the entry with ripe, rounded tannin. There is impressive volume to this Clos Vougeot, though like several others, it needs to evolve more complexity and precision on the finish. Give this 3-4 years to develop in bottle. I don't think this is Etienne's strongest card in 2013.

Introvert and woody, though with flashes of Vougeot spice. There’s finesse aplenty on the palate, and the layered feel of true grand cru quality. (AH)

Tasted blind. Mid crimson; darker than many. Quite intense macerated cherries. Very sweet start and then pretty well-disguised tannins. Pretty grainy on the finish at present but it seems to have all the ingredients for a relatively long life. Just a touch of bitterness on the finish. (JR)
