Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru displays attractive aromas of licorice and cassis that mingle with nuances of rose petal and incense, framed by a judicious touch of new wood. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and layered, with a broad-shouldered chassis of fine-grained tannins and the elegance and suppleness typical of the vintage, concluding with a sapid finish.

The 2017 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru looks more mature in color than its peers. Red cherries and crushed strawberry feature on the nose, which lacks freshness. The palate is fleshy and quite sensual, but missing just a little depth and complexity toward the slightly coarse finish. A curious showing. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Lightish crimson. Red fruits, roses and a light hint of vanilla. One of those wines you want to go on smelling for ever. Tighter on the palate but still succulent. Tannic finesse. Great combination of subtlety and persistence. Red fruits and almost something close to citrus. (JH)

100% destemmed, and about 50% new oak. Picked relatively late, after the mid-harvest (for most people) rains. Biodynamic. Pale ruby colour. Rich, heady nose with some burly character and then an impressive undertow plus (wild?) floral playfulness on the palate (quite a contrast to the stolid nature of Grivot wines a few years back). Relatively youthful with quite a charge of fine tannins on the finish. Should not disappoint but worth waiting for. Should please traditionalists. (JR)
