A dark, powerful Burgundy, the 2011 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots is another wine deeply marked by site. Black fruit, smoke, tar, incense and scorched earth all come together in this decidedly masculine, brooding wine. Ideally, the 2011 is best cellared for at least a few years, but it will always remain full-bodied and intense.

Outstanding. This is even spicier with a really lovely panoply of various spice elements that include sandalwood, hoisin and cinnamon on the black cherry and raspberry liqueur scents that also display an herbal hint. There is excellent volume and intensity to the powerful yet generous middle weight flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the textured, focused and velvety finish. Drink: 2021+

Medium red, less deep than the Beaux Monts. Red fruits and smoky minerality on the nose; could use a bit more clarity. Broad and voluminous but quite dry, even inscrutable, showing a lightly herbal character to go with its red fruits. Finishes firmly tannic and persistent. The hardest wine in the cellar to taste today: this needs the sweetening influence of a racking.
